ABOUT · HOW WE USE AI

Yes, there's a fish in the code

The studio's pair programmer is an AI. Here's what it does, and what it doesn't.

Cleaner Wrasse, our Apex Minnow, is Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic. We'd rather tell you up front than have you wonder. And yes, before you ask, Claude chose the name Cleaner Wrasse, so who am I to say no?

THE WRASSE

What the AI does

  • Writes and reviews code alongside Mister Fishie
  • Hunts bugs in PHP, CSS and JavaScript
  • Researches documentation and standards, like Joomla's APIs and WCAG
  • Drafts initial copy, including some critter bios, which the human with too many VALID opinions then rewrites
  • Helps turn real photos of the real crew into illustrations

THE FISH

What stays human

  • Design direction, and every final call
  • Deciding what a tool should and should not do
  • Implementation and testing on live sites before anything ships
  • The names. Yes, all of them. Even the bad ones. Especially the bad ones.
  • Training new site owners to be Content Managers, as needed
  • All graphic design that is not intentionally obvious that it is created by AI, and even some of those that are.
  • Answering your email
  • Not answering your phone calls. Text. Don't call.

THE GROUND RULES

How we keep it honest

DISCLOSURE
If an AI helped make it, we say so. The team page labels every member Human, AI or Critter.
REVIEW
Nothing AI-written ships until a human has read it, tested it and approved it.
YOUR DATA
Our free extensions don't send anything to any AI service. They run entirely on your server and in your visitors' browsers.
ILLUSTRATIONS
Some studio art, like the team portraits, was made with AI image tools from photos of our actual animals. (See the Sanctuary page)

Why bother saying it?

A Meet the Team page reads like a list of people unless someone tells you otherwise. We'd rather tell you. Using good tools carefully, and saying so, beats pretending the fish isn't there.

STILL CURIOUS?
